Wichita Pride 2021 Celebration to be Held at Century II this September from September 25th-26th. This will be the first in-person event through the organization since 2019. The move to a larger location is meant to provide attendees and vendors with more room for physical distancing. The event will start with opening night performances on Saturday. The celebration comes after a dizzying legislative session for the LGBTQ community and advocates. Kansas was one of several states that introduced bills attempting to ban transgender student athletes from competing on teams that match their gender, among other proposed restrictions. Ultimately, the bill was vetoed by Governor Kelly with a vote to overturn the veto failing. The theme for this year’s festival will be Rainbow Resilience. “This theme is to show that even in a particularly challenging time, we will keep going. We are showing trans youth that they are part of a larger family, and they have a home here. They will always have space to be themselves at Pride,” said Gabrielle Villar, Communications Director for Wichita Pride.
